I grew up with such amazing Salsa artists such as Ismael Rivera, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Joe Cuba to say just a few. I've been playing Tropical music here in San Diego now for about 3 years. I notice that the type of Tropical music played here is more Latin Jazz and not so much Tropical. The few bands that are performing such as Rico Tumbao have a great sound and do some neat classic salsa but other than Rico Tumbao and my band "Ritmo Caribe" the other bands don't really play tropical at all. It sound pretty square and with no groove what so ever. I'm requested a lot here and when people listen to us play they always come up and say, "we never heard anything like this in San Diego". Well, the reason being why the syncopations that we use and the way we write our musical arrangements. Let me hear from people who have experience the same things as I have.
